What is Anxiety?
Most of us know how it feels to be stressed, worried or nervous about something. Usually however, these feelings disappear as quickly as they appear and do not cause us too much worry.
For those with anxiety, however, these feelings last longer, can be much more intense and can cause on-going problems which can make everyday tasks difficult and hold you back from doing the things you want.
Anxiety is nature’s way of protecting ourselves - the fight, fight or freeze response to a perceived threat.
It’s a great system, but as society has developed, we generally have less need for it and for many of us, the system gets activated when there is no physical danger present. Anxiety then becomes a mental health problem whereby it starts to affect our daily life.
